Key Responsibilities
* Set up and manage payroll systems, including direct deposit processing
* Assist with employee and contractor onboarding (W-2 and 1099)
* Process payroll accurately and on schedule
* Maintain accurate financial records and bookkeeping
* Reconcile bank accounts and review transactions
* Track expenses, invoices, and payments
* Prepare basic financial reports (P&L, cash flow summaries)
* Support tax preparation by organizing financial records
* Ensure compliance with payroll and accounting regulations
* Coordinate with management on budgeting and financial planning
Required Qualifications
* Proven experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting
* Hands-on experience with payroll systems (Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll, ADP, Paychex, or similar)
* Familiarity with direct deposit, payroll taxes, W-2 and 1099 processing
* Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
* Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
* Clear communication and professionalism
Preferred (Nice to Have)
* Experience working with media, entertainment, or creative businesses
* Familiarity with small business startups
* Knowledge of California payroll and compliance (or multi-state payroll)
* CPA or accounting certification (not required)
